Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF) is our Charity of Choice!

Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF) Our Charity of Choice.

CDF, in partnership with Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA), helps people to work their way out of poverty we have seen it for ourselves. Like the 440 disabled workers in the Philippines. Their co-op jobs mean the difference between a life of dignity, supporting themselves and their families, and a life of supreme indignity, many begging on the streets to sustain a miserable life of poverty. Last year the funds contributed helped over 2.6 million families in 15 countries. Over the last four years, credit union members in Africa and Asia accumulated $140M in savings and this is fueling economic and social development in the community – development with lasting results with the help of CDF/CCA. Please support us and help these families and their communities. For more information see CCA or CDF

Unfortunately we have just learned that our dear friend and fellow climber Myrna has had to back away from joining us on the climb.  Myrna, we will be thinking of you every step of the way.  Here is a quote from Myrna:
"For now, I must shift my energy from international development and CDF fundraising to focus on a personal challenge.  I have been diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma.  I'm getting excellent care in Saskatoon Hospital as they do tests to identify the source of the cancer.

My slowdown in co-op activities should not slow momentum and fundraising to support families and communities in poor countries.  For the last year I have been preparing physically and mentally to climb Kilimanjaro so I am strengthened for climbing this personal mountain.   I will be on the Kili climb in spirit, taking every step with Lydia, Ingrid & Jo-Anne.  I would like to thank all the people who have made generous contributions to CDF for this initiative."

Training

Most of my training consists of dragging luggage around airports and jaunts around my Kampala neighbourhood.  Looking forward to some serious hiking around Chilliwack the next couple of weeks though.

Thank you!

Thanks for the great support! Your donations are sincerely appreciated by all of us but most importantly it will change the lives of so many people who are striving to overcome poverty through the development programs funded by CDF and Managed by CCA!

training for the climb

Hiking in the Gatineau Hills beats the stairclimber at the YMCA!  Yesterday we hiked up the black diamond run at Camp Fortune.  Check out the hat SK Rider fans!
